Our mortuary upgrade at our Winton and Eccles premises is now complete, including new refrigeration and climate control.
At Unique Funerals, we’re about what really matters: the person entrusted to our care and the family placing their trust in us.
We don’t pose for promotional photographs behind a hearse or outside a crematorium. For us, a funeral is a deeply personal occasion, and our attention belongs with the family, the person who has died and the responsibilities we are there to fulfil.
Our approach is to be a reassuring, discreet presence. We want families to remember the love, the tributes and the farewell, without feeling that their private moment has become an opportunity to promote our business.
Photographs can have real meaning when a family wants them as a personal keepsake. That is a different purpose, guided by their wishes and privacy.
A photograph of a hearse also cannot show the daily care, careful preparation and quiet attention that take place behind the scenes.
The standard of care matters every day your loved one is with us—not just on the day of the funeral.

The Funeral Should Be About Them — Not the Funeral Directors
You can often tell a funeral director is making the funeral about themselves rather than the family when:
- Their advertising focuses heavily on their own personality, image, awards or status rather than the care families receive.
- They dominate conversations instead of listening and asking what matters to the family.
- They push their preferred style of funeral, celebrant, coffin or service rather than presenting genuine choices.
- They repeatedly use bereaved families, funerals or coffins as content for self-promotion.
- They seek praise, photographs, reviews or social-media exposure at inappropriate moments.
- They talk more about being the cheapest, best or most popular than about standards of care, facilities and dignity.
- They become defensive when questioned about refrigeration, qualifications, procedures or where the deceased will be cared for.
- The funeral reflects the director’s “brand” more than the deceased person’s character and the family’s wishes.
- They make promises personally but provide little evidence of reliable systems, trained staff or continuity of care.
- Families feel pressured, unheard or indebted rather than informed, supported and in control.
A good funeral director should remain calmly in the background. Their role is to listen, explain the options, protect the deceased’s dignity and help the family create the right funeral—not to make themselves the central character.

Why are funerals expensive?
It’s a fair and important question.
A funeral is much more than the time spent in the chapel. Behind every service is a professional team working carefully—often around the clock—to bring someone into our care, look after them with dignity, complete the necessary paperwork, liaise with hospitals, coroners, crematoria, cemeteries and officiants, and support the family throughout.
Funeral costs may include:
• 24-hour availability and bringing the person into care
• Professional funeral-arranging services
• Suitable mortuary facilities and refrigeration
• Preparation and dignified care of the person who has died
• The coffin and funeral vehicles
• Trained staff, premises, insurance and specialist equipment
• Crematorium or cemetery fees
• Minister or celebrant fees
• Legal, health and safety, data-protection and regulatory compliance
Many of these costs continue all year round, whether we are arranging one funeral or several.
We understand that price matters, particularly when families are facing financial pressure. That is why funeral providers should explain their charges clearly, offer genuine choices and never pressure families into purchasing services they do not need.
